Turn prize possessions and family heirlooms into modern art photographs.
James Pemberton left England in 1892 with only this trunk and his sister. He entered America through Ellis Island and never saw his parents again. (As luck would have it, he started a family of his own that eventually supplied The Heirloomist with a legendary friend, Abby P. Stokes. We thank you, Mr. Pemberton.)
Abby is James’ great-granddaughter and has kept the trunk in her New York City apartment all these years. In true Stokes fashion, she made it useful too. She has been known to honor and celebrate her story by filling the trunk with champagne during parties.
Thank you Abby Stokes and family for sharing this amazing artifact with us!
