When a school teacher in California saw the story of The Heirloomist on CBS This Morning recently, he did the most awesome thing. He set up a photoshoot in his classroom and turned The Heirloomist into a lesson plan.
Russell McNeil of Monterey Highlands Elementary assigned his 5th graders some homework: bring a family treasure to school and share the story behind it. The class then had a photoshoot, learned each student’s story, and edited the images into a short film shown at the school during a recent open house.
Taking pride in our stories and celebrating them is so important to our identities— ESPECIALLY for kids. Russell McNeil, you are genius and the kids of Monterey Highlands Elementary are lucky to have you. Alhambra Unified School district, give this guy an A+!
