The No.2 Pencils

Denise Rubino's father served proudly as a member of the Nassau County Police Department for 35 years. Though he generally didn't bring his work home with him, a supply of No.2 pencils seemed always to make their way into the Rubino house.

The entire family used them. "You could tell which pencils belonged to whom," Denise said. "My mom's were always sharp and my dad's had teeth marks."

Along with a coordinated effort from the Rubino family, The Heirloomist gathered all the remaining pencils together for this photograph.

Denise still keeps a few pencils on her desk at her home in New York City. Some are more than 30 years old. And she still uses them.

Thank you for sharing with us, Denise!
